Introduction/Objective: Perfectionism is a variable with a transversal impact in different areas of physical activity and sports, such as adherence to physical exercise, learning skills, talent development and sports performance. However, very few sport-specific assessments instruments are validated with the Spanish population. Therefore, this work’s objective is to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Multidimensional Inventory of Perfectionism in Sport (MIPS). Method: a sample of 216 male and female athletes from different disciplines and competition levels in Spain completed the MIPS and the Coping Strategies in Sports Competition (ISCCS) questionnaire. Results: The results obtained from the confirmatory factor analysis suggest that the fit indices of the MIPS multidimensional model were adequate and that Cronbach’s alpha coefficients showed good internal reliability. Gender invariance analyzes showed that the instrument measured well in both men and women. The convergent validity of the MIPS was also confirmed. Conclusion: The Spanish version of the MIPS is a valid instrument for the Spanish sports population in general, resulting in a well-adapted, reliable and valid instrument from a psychometric point of view.
